making merry.....

Thailand is famous for 2 kinds of clubs: yes, coming in champion are the gogo bars or the clubs foreigners pick up girls & pay for their 'services'. And coming in second, gotta be the infamous gay bars & clubs. While observing sincere religious faith & tradition, Thailand is considered a rather liberal society when it comes to such sexual orientation issues. hence it is not surprising to see many people openly displaying their orientations and finding many hot spots for the community to hang out at.

hit the gay clubs at Silom Soi 2 yesterday, after trying hard to learn some thai song at the ktv.... bright & aeh's friends, go, bank, pop, kop, sprite, tom, this kennysia-lookalike guy whom, i forgot his name... (yah, thais have very interesting nicknames....) were kind enough to take me there to explore..... allowing a girl to join their all-guys entourage. they're fun & nice people... too bad, they don't like girls... awwwwww....

its freaking crowded for a sunday night, but its a holiday eve, so it shouldn't be too surprising i guess...... we watched this lip synching shows by the trans - some were good, & others were real bad, scary in fact. could see that many guys there were on the prowl, looking out for potential 'friends'. the entire club was small and ppl were packed like a can of sardines... the ratio of males to females there were like 50:1? despite this ratio, it wasn't quite intimidating, cos i guess i'm not the prey there anyway, so no pressure (the peeps there must be thinking: what's the f*** is she doing here...) and the guys looked out for me as well, so i felt quite safe.... & drinks here are like 3-4 times cheaper than those in SG, no cover charge some more, just need to show id to prove age..... But then again, sg drinks are nicer, not as sickeningly sweet.

the rude thing was........ whether is it male & female toilet, you're bound to find guys in the BOTH toilet. they must have found it underutilised given the little female patrons there. best thing is: they din even bother to close the door! oh gosh..... i've never quite like sharing loos with guys & having to witness one standing & peeing at the toilet right before i go in to use was just...........&^#%&#($^@* . luckily the the seat cover was clean & dry and I lined it with paper before sitting on it.......

anyway, total experience was fun, an eye-opener. The tiny rundown sad little X bar in sandusky was no where near as hip & as happening as the ones here... more importantly, the company was great! i think in every party, while music, venue & atmosphere is crucial, what really determines the fun is really the crowd you're with (btw, clubs here closes at 2am, that's kinda early vs. 3-4am in SG). we ended the night heading out to Pratunam for Kow Man Kai (in my own spelling....), which is chicken rice. they told me their SG friends liked the chicken rice here better than the sg one so i decided that i had to try it. my verdict: for the rice & chicken, i prefer the authentic sg hainanese ones (yummy yummy, glad that i brought some chix rice paste here!). but for the chilly dip (cut tiny green chillies with chopped garlic in soya sauce) & the soup (complete with lotsa chix bones with some tender meat on them....) were much better than the MSG laden soup in sg....

3am > home sweet home. got a lift home from bank, fortunately. otherwise getting a cab alone at night in bkk would be somewhat a scary ordeal, having to pray that you're with a good cabbie....

its 2nd day at work tml! gonna finish up those readings & get set to meet my new boss tml!

chill & pray for me to do a good job in my new role (of course imma work hard for it too, but a little blessing won't hurt)!
